Palm Pre Apps Will Take Patience
Lots of sites have all decided to pile on (ex. BusinessInsider.com & TechCrunch.com) Palm because their App Catalog is 1) still in Beta and 2) anemically small. Regardless of what I think lots of people agree that paying money for the phone assumes that there will be a bevy of apps to add onto it. The reality is that the apps will come, but it’s going to take patience.
If you were a developer, the last thing you’d want to do is to spend the money on developing apps for a phone that hasn’t reached maximum scale. Of course, everyone and their mom and (outsourcing partner in Asia) is running to develop apps for the Blackberry or iPhone but those platforms have been out for years. The Pre is brand new and hasn’t even been out for two weeks at the time of this writing.
The good news is that lots of apps are sure to appear once the Pre and other WebOS devices are available on AT&T and Verizon who will open the Pre up to millions of potential users. With so many people looking for a reason to knock the Pre, Palm is just making it easier. Personally, I can’t wait for the critics to shut up.
